Calvary Chapel of the High Desert
Calvary Chapel of the High Desert

It is our desire to meet the needs of all those who choose to fellowship with us here at Calvary Chapel and to help every believer become a functioning member of the body of Christ. The pastoral staff here at Calvary has its calling expressed in Ephesians 4:11-12. "And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ..."

It is, therefore, our goal to help you mature in Jesus Christ so that you can do "the work of the ministry." To accomplish this, all of the ministries that function as a part of this church place a high emphasis on teaching the Word of God. "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..." (2 Tim 3:16)

Accordingly, ministries offered here at Calvary are reliant upon the authority of Scripture for their direction and the empowering of the Holy Spirit for their success.

We hope that this web ministry outreach will be a blessing to you.

Pocket Testament League Pocket Testament League

The Pocket Testament League has, for more than 110 years, motivated Christians to read, carry and share the Word of God. Begun in 1893 as the vision of a teenage girl named Helen Cadbury, the League provides free resources empowering people to develop a lifestyle of personal evangelism. Our members have shared more than 100 million Gospels during the history of this ministry, changing hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. We print Gospels of John and other resources in English and Spanish, making them available free of charge. Membership is free, and members may order Gospels every month to give away as special gifts in one-on-one encounters. As a member, you are invited to dedicate one of your pockets to the Lord, whether a shirt pocket, pants pocket, in your jacket, briefcase or purse. Every morning, place a Gospel in it as you leave your home. Prayerfully look for an opportunity throughout the course of the day to give that Gospel away as a special gift to someone you meet. Members find that more often than not, people are delighted to receive these quality publications.

Harvest Christian Fellowship Harvest Christian Fellowship

The foundation that Harvest began building on over 30 years ago is the same foundation it stands on today. Harvest's buildings look different, its music sounds different, and its methods of ministry even are different. But one thing hasn't changed, and that's Harvest's commitment to knowing God and making Him known.

"We sought to build Harvest Ministries on the formula that the believers of the first century followed in Acts 2:3247, 'And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. . . . and the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved'," says Pastor Greg Laurie. That vision of the first century church helped Harvest Christian Fellowship build a vision for the 21st century church, which is summed up in these words: "Knowing God and making Him known."

Our mission is to facilitate in-depth study of God's Word through an on-line interactive reference library continuously updated from the teachings and commentaries of selected pastors and teachers who hold to the conservative, historical Christian faith.

We desire to operate the Blue Letter Bible as a ministry. This is a zero revenue project. There will be no charge for any services, nor are there any banner ads on the website to generate revenue. Development and programming labor, hardware and webspace have been provided by our sponsor, Sowing Circle, a non-profit Bible-centered ministry committed to serving Jesus Christ. We do not ask for donations, however, many people have expressed the desire to assist in this ministry project.

    Calvary Chapel Calvary Chapel

Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational Christian church which began in 1965 in Costa Mesa, California. Calvary Chapel's pastor, Chuck Smith became a leading figure in what has become known as the "Jesus Movement."

Calvary Chapel also ministers over the airwaves, and this must account for many of those who travel long distances to fellowship here. A Nielsen survey indicated that our Sunday morning Calvary Chapel service is the most listened-to program in the area during the entire week. As of 1987, Calvary's outreach has included numerous radio programs, television broadcasts, and the production and distribution of tapes and records. The missions outreach is considerable. Calvary Chapel not only supports Wycliffe Bible Translators, Campus Crusade, Missionary Aviation Fellowship, and other groups, but we donate to Third World needs. We then built a radio station in San Salvador and gave it to the local pastors there. We also gave money to Open Doors to purchase the ship that, in tandem with a barge, delivered one million Bibles to mainland China. Our financial commitment to missions exceeds the local expense budget by over 50%.

Today, Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa, the church which only had twenty-five members has established more than five hundred affiliate Calvary Chapels across the world and is among the world's largest churches with more than thirty-five thousand calling it their home church. It is one of the ten largest Protestant churches in the United States.
